元旦 -the firstday of the year-
Etching、Etching ink, Chine Colle Paper
Year: 2023
Size: 6x9 (8x10) inch
Created as a New Year greeting for friends, this work draws inspiration from traditional Japanese depictions of the sun and moon.
The image was produced using a monoprint process informed by etching techniques of blur and tonal diffusion. By softening the contour of the circular form, the work evokes light dissolving into atmosphere and water rather than defining a fixed object. The focus shifts from representation to the sensation of presence, memory, and reflection.
Suspended between sunrise and moonrise, the image occupies an ambiguous space where beginnings and endings coexist. Created to mark the transition into a new year, the work offers a quiet meditation on renewal, continuity, and the possibilities that emerge through change.
